Spate of quad bikes and tools stolen from farms in the Borders

Over the last week incidents were reported of items being stolen from various properties.

These include a red Honda quad bike being reported stolen from a farm south of Jedburgh at around 10.15pm on Saturday, May 24.

A suspect was described at around five foot six, with a slight build around nine stone, waring a black tourie, a light coloured t-shirt and black ski salopettes.

Milwaukee power tools, valued at £3000, were taken from a farm south of Grantshouse near the A6112 overnight on Sunday, May 25 into Monday, May 26.

The following day on Tuesday, May 27, three people were seen stealing a green Suzuki LT-A750XPM2 quad bike from a farm north of Auchencrow.

The same day at around 1am, three people forced entry to a farm building south of Grantshouse and took a red Honda TRX500 and three chainsaws.

Through the night of Monday and Tuesday, a white Mitsubishi L200 pickup was stolen from a farm south of Grantshouse, later being traced by police.

At around 11.50pm on Tuesday, May 27, a man attempted to steal two red Honda quad bikes at a farm north of Westruther.

A white VW Crafter van and a white Ford Transit Connect van were seen in the area at the time.

Lastly, overnight from Tuesday into Wednesday, May 28, an unknown person stole two chainsaws, valued at more than £3000, from a shed south of Hawick.

Police have made recommendations to deter thieves such as  installing an alarm where the bikes are kept, installing a robust security device such as SUIP protector, install trackers on bikes and not leaving keys nearby.

Officers also recommend installing security around the property including good quality LED lighting, CCTV and signage, driveway and shed alarms.
